The Reconstruction (2005)
The Darkness

I remember it well
Sight, sound and smell
The accident that sent me here

Lying in this bed
In a room I dread
I can feel my family near

“Mother? Father? I know there’s something wrong
Can someone tell me, please, what’s going on?”
The darkness settles in and this night just never seems to end
“Can someone please turn on the lights so I can see the damage?”

I remember the day
I remember the pain
Of burning skin and broken bones

Pinned behind the wheel
All the glass and steel
So close to dying alone

“Mother? Father? I know there’s something wrong
Can someone tell me, please, what’s going on?”
The darkness settles in and this night just never seems to end
“Can someone please turn on the lights so I can see the damage?”

“Listen closely to these next few words
They’re not easy for me to say but they must be heard

Son, you are blind”
